Question Drill Down - Dates & ISP request

Would it be possible to add dates to the drill down feature? This would be very helpful to me so I can quickly sort the recent traffic in the drill down without having to magnify all of the users on the list.. if it is not feasible to list the dates, would it be possible to sort the drill down entries from the most recent to the oldest?

Also, could you add a column for the "ISP" in the drill down? The IP address isn't as useful to me as the ISP since I'm usually searching for specific companies amongst our web traffic. I suspect that doing this may inflate the table too much, however, as some ISPs have very large names.. perhaps if that is a problem you can limit the characters and end the ISP name with "..." (I.E. Fake Internet Compa...), even a glimpse of the ISP would help me out alot when I'm reviewing our stats in the drill down.

If this is possible, THANKS! If not, I understand. Keep up the great work!

-Gary

You already have detailed stats by ISP.

True, but not in the drill down.. or am I missing something?

For example.. say I'm trying to find out who our visitors are from a specific link (www.example-link.com), I would go to "Came From" on the statistics menu, find www.example-link.com on the list, and click the drill down arrow.

The Drill Down page then appears and lists the "IP Address", "Browser", "OS", "Resolution", "Returning Count", and "Entries" of each user that got to my site from www.example-link.com.. but it doesn't tell me the date that the users arrived to my site, nor does it tell me the ISP of the users until I click on the "magnify user" icon.. What I need is some kind of easy and fast way to identify these users and to be able to tell when they arrived from www.example-link.com..

Basically here is my situation: We have a domain for one of our products that we ONLY list in our advertising. When we put out a print advertisement for this product, the ad lists this domain. When they type the domain into their browser, it automatically forwards them to a section of our main website. It's strictly a forwarding domain, it contains no information on its own.. StatCounter lets me see the traffic to our website from that domain in the "Came From" section, but it doesn't readily tell me when the users get to our site through that domain, or who the ISP for that traffic is, unless I magnify each user individually - which is very time consuming.

Most of our customers are larger companies that have their own ISPs, so if ISP and date were listed in the drill down, I could quickly and easily identify which companies are seeing our advertisements & have an interest in that product (because they arrived to our site through the domain only used for advertising). I can also get an idea about which magazine they might be seeing the ad in based on the date of their arrival to our website compared with the date of publication of the magazine containing our advertisement.

Adding date & ISP to drill downs would also save me time having to sift through every IP address in that section to determine which ones are from companies, and which ones are from regular service providers like AT&T, Comcast, etc. which gives me a better idea on the ratio of larger company interest vs. what are more than likely smaller companies & private individuals that have an interest in the product featured in an advertisement. It's not perfect, but it gives us a rough idea on advertising effectiveness as far as having the ads send users to our website.. adding ISPs & Dates to the drill down section would make compiling this information a lot easier.

We also use the "Came From" section to identify traffic coming from distributors, and online articles. Adding "Date" & "ISP" to the drill down would be very useful for that as well.. unless you guys know of a currently existing method to obtain this data easier...?

Thanks!
-Gary

I see ISP info in many detailed stats. I personally generally just use Recent pageloads to see the whole picure in one shot unfiltered.

Also in Recent Visitor activity I think.

Hmm, I'd take a look but just about now there seems to be a problem accessing my Statcounter stats account.

I don't end up using the Recent Visitor Activity tool much because it makes it even more time consuming having to sift through ALL of our site traffic to find the users getting to our site from that specific domain.

It's a good tool to quickly see who arrived at our site recently, but i'm currently interested only in sorting traffic coming from a specific domain..

Is there a way to sort the Recent Visitor Activity by "Referring URL"?

You have Came from and Recent Came From. Exclude internal referrers (by stating the domain or domain which you consider internal to the site in the project settings) and you will have all hits grouped by external referrer.

Came From and Recent Came from are basically the same, but search engines referrers are not included in Recent Came from.

Yeah, I'm not sure there is currently an easy way to extract the very specific information that I am looking for .

How I do it now is I use "Came From" to find the referring link of that specific domain that I'm interested in seeing the traffic for, then I click the drill down for that domain to get a better look at the traffic coming from there.. this method seems to be the easiest way for me to get the information that I need, but it's not that easy because the visitors are listed by IP address and are not sorted by date, so they are appear to be all over the place.. so in order for me to see who is getting to my site and when they are getting there from that specific domain I have to magnify all of the users and then manually sort them offline by most recent hits which just takes a lot of time.. it would help me out alot if the drill downs were sorted by date with the most recent hits at the top of the list, and the oldest hits at the bottom. It would also be very useful if i could get an idea of who each IP address is without having to magnify every user. That way I could quickly identify the traffic..

You can downlaod the log in xls or csv format and put it through Access or Excel and sort it and filter it any way you like.

The only problem with that is it doesn't list the ISP or hostname.. It just lists the IP address for the users? I guess if ISP and hostname could be added to the .csv or .xls file I could do it that way, but I suspect it would still be easier for me if the date and ISP were listed in the drill downs

Thanks for all of the replies btw, I appreciate it.

Well what the log contains is exactly what is logged.

The detailed stats are interpreted and extra info is added. IP's get looked up in geo-databases. ISP's get returned by calls to the "gethostbyip" function.

You won't have these extra pieces of information in the log.
