Just wondering if when searching for a site from specific keywords do visitors from the USA prefer .com websites to .co.uk websites as it is presumed that the .com sites are based in the states?

I personally have no preference.
Note that this is an assumption and my opinion only: I assume that a .uk, or other country specific, is a site for that country only. A .us, for example, would be a business or site that only deals with United States related stuff. The .com, to me, is a commercial site and world wide. I am probably wrong.

If I want to actually buy something I'd probbay prefer a local site as I don't want to deal with overseas shipping, customs, etc.
Unless what I found on the overseas site is what I really want and then I'll get it no matter what (if I can afford it If I'm only surfing I don't have any preference.

If I was expecting American customers I would be using a .com name. No use confusing people who pay you money.

I seem to have a lot of visitors from the USA but no sales, perhaps I need to do some research into the current trends and styles in the usa, and preduce a range aimed at that market?

A .com site means someone has paid extra for a .com domain and where the company is based is anyones guess. To be honest, I click a link then judge the site not the domain name. Although there are exceptions, I wouldn't buy from a .ru site or .au site. One because I'd never see the goods or my money again, and the other because by the time the goods arrived I would have moved house several times and would not even remeber ordering them. |

1 US dollar = about .48 British Pound 1 US dollar = about .72 Euro Take a product and do the math and it gets expensive for us. Then figure that we can buy similar glass products from a US company. Not that either is a better product and no insult to your products intended. Coasters at www. glassylady. com/coasters.htm are 44.95. Thats about 32.36 Euro or 18.42 British Pound. Then there is www. giftsforprofessionals. com/92539700-ic628.html

I recently bought an object from the USA for AU$350 that retails here for AU$800 (via a nice statcountery person). Its pretty difficult to undercut the Americans on price, or, unforutnately, come close to them on price. |

If I where to buy from overseas though, I would want something to convert my dollars to/from the foreign currency so I know what I'm spending and a guarantee that I locked in that conversion rate. Just adds to the confusion/fear of buying from any on-line vendor, especially for the first time.
