I'm new to web development and StatCounter but have just installed StatCounter on the Cricket Club website that I maintain. I like what I've seen so far.
When installing StatCounter it was unclear which of my pages I should insert the StatCounter code on. Did I need to only put it on the index.php page or all the pages on my site? Neither the documentation Getting started with StatCounter nor the instructions generated by the StatCounter Code Setup Wizard shed any light on my query. It was only after searching the forum that I eventually found the answer on the Support Pages in Knowledge Base Article KB28 Can I ask for a minor change to the installation documentation to include the Knowledge Base Article KB28 in the installation documentation and the StatCounter Code Setup Wizard. |

I seem to recall that it has always said to put the counter on all pages.
The trouble starts with some (many) people not knowing what a page is. A page is not a file. A page is what is displayed in the browser during navigation, under a particular url shonw in the address bar. Php or asp built sites and sites using SSI in general are made up of a lot more individual files (scripts, modules) than actual pages. You must know your site's structure and functioning to understand where to add the code. It can be tricky with canned applications. The rule of thumb is to add it to whatever can customize the footer area which is usually common to all pages. No amount of preliminary instruction will actually help those who don't know and understand these things, as this will ring no bells at all for the uninformed until AFTER they've run into a problem with either no hits logged, or too few hits logged due to code not being added to all pages, or too many due to code being added severally.
