Default Weird request to blitz a forum I started

It was when there was the issue of stats not being recorded correctly a couple of days ago. Seems like it shows up as the number one google search ahead of my website. Any possibility of deleting the forum? Especially since the issue is resolved?

Just a wonder and a gander, thanks either way.

Hello

I moved your post to Discussion, more appropriate.

If you are wanting to delete the hits to your site from the Statcounter forum, the answer is no. You cannot selectively delete hits from your file log.

Hi Fefrie,

What exact thread are you referring to?

If you want to stop people visiting your site via the thread you started, we can remove the link to your site if you want?

Let us know!

haha... that happened to me when i first came on here..

it is a bit embarrassing when a bumbling post you made on the forum is beating your own website for your keywords!!!

It even happened to me recently.. i built a site for a friend and was asking Sharron a question about validating it for xhtml strict... i posted the code that i was having problems with, and in amongst it was the name of my friends site!!!

Now my friend and his friends are typing in the name of his site in google and 2 positions below his site is the post i made here!!!

I and Sharron deleted the incriminating words over 2 weeks ago.. and yet its still listed on google..

I'm just hoping it won't stay there forever

There really is nothing you can do. Google won't give your friend's page a high rank merely because you mentioned it on some forum.. Else all someone would have to do is post their page to several forums and get high ranks! (Which is what some spammers try to do, anyhow.. Notice it never works for them, either?) There has to be some other reason it got such a high rank, such as other backlinks and quality of page content. In other words, sorry to say, their page deserved a higher ranking than yours. Figure out why, and then do what they do--only do it better.

If your friend doesn't want their page listed/ranked, then they will have to add robot control info to their pages to instruct robots away from their site (Google info on the robot control protocol). They'll also have to contact Google to request they remove the page from their indexes. (Your friend will have to do it, since you don't own the page.)

Regards,
TB

EDIT: Oops, I too fast read. If you're asking how to remove the Google search result to your post here, but not remove your friend's site.. You can try requesting Google remove it.. Or just wait. If the Googlebot chose to index your post solely because of the link, it will eventually come around again and remove it once it notices the links are gone. But this seems unlikely--It may, depending on many factorssuch the search terms used, continue to display the content, since a link alone is not enough reason to index a page. Either way, you have little control over what, how, when and where Google decides to index and rank pages (that is the subject of all the "SEO" talk; People trying to manipulate things so Google favors their pages above others.) Best you can hope for is that it'll go away with time.

Change that post to remove the hyperlink and it will eventually drop out of Google.

TB - you cannot ask Google to remove from its index url's fomr sites that don't belong to you unless they actually return a 404. removing a post in a forum might not return a 404.

Default Thanks everybody just figured it out.

Yes I wanted to stop statcounter from being the number 1 search when googling my website.

I realize that google will rank as it sees fit, but to prevent it from keeping statcounter as number one in future, I've just removed all little words and quipits from my post to this forum that make it google bot spiders to crawl it.

Eventually, the association between statcounter and my website will drop out near the bottom. It will take time, but that will be fine.

Sorry about posting in the wrong forum. The catgories can be a little confusing from my perspective.
