Default "Recent Came From"

I've noticed that on the "recent came from" and "came from" lists, it lists my URL more than any other website. I would like it to track WHERE they came from such as another website, email, or banner ad click. Sometimes other sites will be listed but for the most part it shows my own URL.

My referral links show "no referral link" as well. Im confused..

I do have my normal domain forwarded but I have also create two Statcounter projects for each URL. same issues with both.

Any idea why this might happen?

thanks!

You can select to have only external links displayed by going to "Came From" and ticking the "External Links Only" box.

As far 'no referral link' is concerned, these are visits from a user that does not have javascript enabled, which prevents Statcounter collecting the information. There is nothing can be done about that.

No referrer can also be from users using certain browsers with referrers turned off (Firefox has that option).

I had a look at the Options menu of Firefox, but haven't seen anything about this option. Have I overlooked anything? How exactly can that be achieved using Firefox?

there are others available via this command: type about:config into your ff browser bar. a page will appear, look there for the option you are searching for. double clicking the line will change the setting

Those options are available when you add on the Developer Toolbar, or by playing in about:config.

I have the box ticked for Show external links, and yet I see 3 for my site on the Came from, is there something wrong there?

Did you put the url of your domain in the project settings as website url? both www and non www version? Those are considered internal so they can get filtered out when you request external only.

Hi,

I only have the non www version.

Should I add the version that includes the www. so that I have them both included.
And if so do I add it underneath or do I need a space between both URL's?
I am referring to the Website URL box.

****UPDATE****

I added my site with the WWW
I looked at the came from and it showed as 2 instead of 3, however the referring link on the Came From is the non www version, this baffles me as I had that already on my Website URL, can you help?

I don't suppose the URL of my site will automatically disappear after entering the www URL, am I right in thinking that the lines will eventually go.

PS,

What is the difference between url's that have the www and without, as I notice that you can still get to a site with or without the www included, never really understood this to be honest, of course this is a seperate question.

Urls with www and those without www even if they lead to the same web page are in fact distinct urls. The 2 versions of the domain are called canonical domains. Search engines also treat them as if they were different domains, which is why it's recommended you pick one and do 301 redirection from the other version to it.

Statcounter also considers www and non www as different domain urls.

The urls have to be placed one per line and make sure you don't enter a blank line at the end ( so don't hit return after the second entry). If you did, delete all characters (even blanks) after the last entry until the cursor remains at the end of the url and not on the next line.

Those urls you put in your settings are only in order to distinguish which referrers might be internal to the site. Any referrer from one of those domain will be internal so when you request to see external only, the internal ones get filtered out.

The hits are still in the log though, it's only Came From stats that are affected when you opt to see external only.
