Default Discrepancies in site counts

Hi. My site is a .com that has it's own stat counter as part of my account. Occassionally I've noticed a difference the number of stats counted by you and by them. For example, I know a particular reader and was with her when she viewed a private page on her computer, but this hit didn't register on my statcounter account. It did on my account that hosts my site. The opposite happens too.

I was shocked to see this morning that a public page I have registered 141 hits yesterday. I did work on that page a lot yesterday, but I didn't open anywhere near that amount of times. Statcounter only registered 12 hits yesterday for my entire site and only 2 or 3 for that page.

What variables could account for this difference? Since both of you are recording hits, then I know my code for you is working.

Secondly, can anything be done about it?

Assuming you have installed both SC code and your hoster provide code on all pages of the site:

A user who blocks images (or just images from third party sites) will not get detected by Statcounter. It's a common protection mechanism in many firewals and anti-spyware programs. In contrast a tracker from your own hoster works on the same server where you are hosted so it is not limited that way.

Ah! Now there's an answer that makes absolute sense. Thank you, I appreciate.
