Anybody experience a significant spike in hits out of nowhere? I've got a new site up that rarely gets hit yet (except for by people who must be lost!), but saw a spike yesterday. Well over a hundred yesterday afternoon, no repeat today. I don't get it.

I'd noticed a huge spike in my site the other day. But I can, thanks to statcounter, determine that mostly all of those visitors came from Stumbleupon. How they happened across me, there is a mystery. Someone had to have listed it there recently.

It happens!
It's more noticeable on a low traffic site. With 5,000 hits a day, you don't really notice an extra 100 more than usual. Richard |

Interestingly, the great majority of hits.... almost all... had no referring site. Like they found out about the website through osmosis and then typed in the url directly. I know the site isn't listed anywhere else because it's not quite "ready for primetime".

Yes, I noticed the same yesterday. I average about 300 - 350 visits per day to my site. Yesterday it was above 500. I think it's the same "spike" your referring to and as yet, I have no explanation either.
