Question Weird problem...2 different users, same label in SC

I have a relatively new site.
When I'm on it, I can see who else is on it.

I usually have Statcounter open in a separate window, and as I identify members (especially when there's only one on the site) I label them in S/C with their user name.

I've noticed that two different members are getting "read" as the same, by S/C.

S/C says this user is from GA. "Mommy34" and "Tina" are the two members that S/C logs as the same person. I have spoken on the phone with "Tina" so I can be sure she is actually in Idaho. I have her phone number and it's shown on my caller ID. Her name doesn't come up but it does say the city and "ID" (for Idaho).

The board was practically dead today, but I just refreshed my screen and saw Tina was on. I refreshed S/C and the user was labelled "mommy34".

This has had me going several times when I thought I'd made a mistake and mislabelled one or the other. It's happened enough now though, that I know the error isn't mine.

Isn't this weird?

Any ideas?

TIA...

Hi

Maybe one person registered twice...

Maybe both users are grouped in the same IP, like an apartment or office building, or school, or library. Many times a large number of people in a small area use the same IP....

Maybe they are both using the same proxy site....

Maybe they are AOL users, and happen to share the IP.....

Maybe I don't have an answer LOL

Do you ever see them both at the same time?

No....but it's a new board and the most users online at the same time (out of 109) was eight so that's not unusual.
Here's what s/c says:

Referring Link No referring link
Host Name mta-98-145-74-169.kc.res.rr.com
IP Address 98.xx.xx.xxxmommy34 [Edit Label]
Country United States
Region Georgia
City Holmes Beach
ISP Road Runner Holdco Llc
Returning Visits 89
Visit Length Multiple visits spread over more than one day

And as I said, I've spoken with Tina on the phone (both directions and believe she is in Idaho, like she says. But when she's on the board, the user above, which is currently labelled "mommy34" is what shows.

Help! ???

Do they have the same IP? I don't read that in your post.

If the IPs are different, then it's a bug! The label is affixed to the IP.

http://whois.domaintools.com/98.145.74.169

This shows the information about this IP address. It will not be about the individual using that IP.

The information is abotu the datacenter to which that IP is connected. The datacenter can be very far from the usr's home. It may be in a differnt city or even a different country.

Only the ISP can know details on their subscriber who used that IP at that particular time where you logged the hit.

Also different geo databases may have different geo information for the same IP due to all of them being out of sync for some ip's at all times. ISP's shuffle Ip blocks all the time. They even get traded among ISPs.
