I suspect that I might be missing something that is glaringly obvious, but my web site counts are barely increasing.
Perhaps the answer is that there are no visitors! I would accept that might be the case were it not for the fact that I have had a slow but regular trickle of visitors for months, and an alternative monitor is indicating hits which Statcounter is apparently missing. I have not changed most of my web pages for weeks now (long before SC started migrating versions), so I am perplexed. Can anyone suggest what might be happening? Thank you. |

Maybe your code is no longer correct on your pages as a consequence of some changes you may have made. Maybe you don't have it on all your pages.

I have not made any changes to my web pages since the end of March. I am planning a major rebuild of my site but have not made the changes yet.

I am also cross-checking with awstats, which reads the log file entries. This says that I am being visited quite a lot. Statcounter is missing them. I have checked my pages - the SC code is present where it should be!

I am seeing the code on the first site.
You should generate fresh code and use the xhtml option. The code will be correct for your site and you will not have to comment out the noscript portion. This way you have missed recording hits from any visitors with javascript disabled browsers. The other domain has no existence of its own sicne tis' redirected to the first one, so you won't register hits to that. But you should know that the redirection type is wrong. You are doing a 302 (temporary) redirection instead of the recommended 301 (permanent) redirection. For a visitor to be detected they must not dsiable thrid party images or otherwise block the Statcounter site in their host file. Disabling third aprty iamges is a common preactice of some anti-spyware, firewall programs. Also seems to be the new default settings in browsers after the latest updates to IE and FF. Under such circumstances detection is not possible through third party scripts.

Thanks for your advice. I'm not sure what you mean about using the xhtml option. I have set the DOCTYPE to xhtml and added xhtml to the namespace attribute of the html tag.

I am referring to the Statcounter code. When you generate it there is an option to generate xhtml compliant code. That is only good for pages which use an xhtml doctype obviously.
Use the wrench icon > Install Counter > and go through all the steps carefully to generate the code again properly. Then edit your pages to insert the new code.
