For historical reasons I have 2 websites, one is a personal, more hobby-like than the other.
1. webado.net is my current biz site. 2. webado.com is personal, hobby, playful (sort of). Also much older and not maintained. I need to clean it up, reorganize it, remove what is irrelevant and silly (ouch!). And quite the wrong domain tld I think I'd want to merge them both under webado.net and 301 redirect webado.com there and make whatever I keep of the current content of webado.com into a subdomain at webado.net . What name should I give it? I've been tossing and turning, and no subdomain name strikes me as being adequate. But maybe I can call it web-ah-do What do you wall think? Does it make a bit of sense? or am I just looking for ways to waste time?

Hi Chris
Nahh, keep the .com ( unless its a money problem ) its nice to have a bash about - jig it up site , bit of fun and maybe experimantal too, you guys know I have more than one alter-ego !! Personal and business sites make good sense, front of shop with one and hair down with the other ( except in my case [no hair !! ]) New name ... web-we-do ? Rich |

Regardless of its name, what will be the advantage, and therefore the justification, of all this work you will be doing revamping it?

Earlier it was not possible to get a .se domain in Sweden for personal use, trademarks or organizations. Only joint-stock companies (corporation) could get it, and I believe it was the same in many other countries that the country's tld was not allowed for everybody. So people often used the .com tld for their sites even if they didn't use it for commercial purposes. However, if you decide to go for the sub domain the question is what you plan to use it for? Is it still for "personal, hobby and playful" content? In that case, why not name the sub to "chris" or "chrissoc". Even if there is no @ in the domain name you could actually read the "chris.webado.net" as "chris at webado net" |

Oh, well ... hmmm... that's why I'm asking
So some of the reasons are: 1) I need to clean up the .com anyway to remove all the old dead wood. 2) I don't want to get the .com first when I search for [webado] LOL 3) the .net needs some cleanup as well, since it's becoming a tad messy 4) I need a change - new designs maybe ... eventually ... And then again ....

So what you've said is .com comes up better in the searches, is more appropriate for a commercial site and BOTH domains need tidying up. Sooooo, Move all of the .net stuff into .com and keep .net for the personal messing around.

I think it only comes up first because it's first alphabetically.
There's no earthly reason for my .com to be better than my .net. Overall I have lots more hits to webado.net. Except for the search for [webado]
