You are probably going to be looking at a dedicated server, Windows IIS, and a host like RackSpace.
See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coldfusion
Expensive.

Hi Howard

Thanks for that, i've been digging and it can be done on coldfusion, but as you suggest it seems to be a dedicated server application, i understand that somthing called tomcat-apachie can be installed on unix/linux servers to handle JSP, but does anyone have any experiance of this, or point to any posible hosting companys ?

Rich

Westhost used to have virtual private servers, but they are switching low end accounts over to shared and those with greater needs to dedicated servers. I used to be with them but didn't need all the features of the vps sphera configuration. I think there is a version of CF that runs on linux/apache servers. Might want to check out westhost. They have a very stong user forum, and their customer service is considered good. Webmasterworld used to be hosted there, but went over to rackspace a few years ago when there was a dns outage and they lacked redundancy in that department.

Some shopping carts are hsoted on jsp platforms.

Also some large institutions (like governments) may have their websites on jsp platforms. I guess no open source stuff there.

Yeah, jsp is kind of like php and asp - only probably more mysterious. And expensive.
