This is my first post here. I've been using StatCounter on my personal Website for quite some time now, and love it. Recently, I've been posting a lot on Craigslist, as I'm selling some property. For the past 2 months, I've been able to use the HTML only version of StatCounter with no problem. Today, I re-posted my ad, and found that StatCounter is being blocked from ads now.

I have been using this on all my Craigslist ads and today was the first time. Seems they don't want anyone knowing the stats... Since my ads have links to various websites of mine that have the counter installed, at least I will know how many are coming from those Craigslist ads by viewing that one area that shows where they are coming from... it's just that I won't know how many are clicking on the ad in Craigslist... not a big deal.
Though I think Statcounter needs to chnage the name in the code to something else. |

Craigslist is the only site that I'm tracking, so this is a MAJOR problem for me.
Shouldn't this be a fairly easy problem for StatCounter to fix? If not, I'd love to know why!

Why is CL banning StatCounter? Is there a work-around?

Craig's List has every right to decide what it will allow others to put on their site. Obviously they have decided that they do not want to allow people to track others on their website. I'm sure that Statcounter is not the only tracker they have banned.
The URL in the counter code is required for the counter to work, their is no work around. |

The workaround would be to have about 1,000 url's that are constantly changing... and by the way, Craigslist went after some poor little guy about a year or so ago in an overwhelming way and got him to voluntarily shut down... I guess StatCounter is a little bit bigger so Craigslist is just banning their code.
I have always been interested in how many people click onto my ads, usually I will get about 150 clicks on average per day for my vacation rental ads... but I have found that only 20% click the link to my website for the calendar of available dates... so by having statcounter on my website I see the number of truely interested people.... so StatCounter on the website is for the most part just as good as being on Craigslist. And if you want to differenciate between hits to your website coming from craigslist vs elsewhere, just have the link in Craigslist go to a different page than the home page on your website with a Statcounter code. If there is a will there is a way! |

I'm having the same problem as the rest of you folks.
I've been using the free version of stat counter for my Craigslist adds. Up until the end of april, I had no problem using the counters. They are great, even the free version, and I was at least seeing if my adds were being looked at. Now they've banned statcounter. The moderator has already said "No way to work around this" That's too bad. I liked the service, but was leery about paying. Now I know why I have to move on. Paying for the service was never an option anyway. Maybe this has something to do with eBay having a big part in Craigslist now. |

Paying wouldn't help. If they've banned the use of anything that refers to Statcounter, that's that. It's not the only such site that blocks the use of external trackers.

I just discovered that CL is blocking Statcounter.
The pissy thing is, I just used another generic counter on it. If CL hates counters, why not ban all instead of just a couple. I'm sure that if Statcounter wanted to be compatible with CL it could find a work around. A slimmed down code. A loaded random image that tracks how many times it is loaded maybe? This would only be good for initial page visits as some browsers may just cache it... |
