BTW, can you try to connect to Statcounter via a proxy server. Here is one to to use: "freeproxyserver.net". If you can load your Statcounter pages with that, then the chance is that your ISP has issues. Quote:
But the best place is as close as possible to the closing tag. One reason for it is the loading of page if Statcounter's server goes down or slow. The other reason is if you like to track exit links and/or downloads, then it must be below every exit and download link you like to see in the stats. Last edited by Arne; 01-09-2011 at 01:57 PM. |

I have no network problems (all other sites I'm visiting are O.K). The code has been on my site for 3 years now, in my footer.php just before </body>. The problem with the loading started a couple of days ago. Also I don't have any problems to load my site when I remove the SC code

I think it was an issue with Statcounter as now all three of my issues have disappeared. Everything is working fast and smooth as it has done previously.
Thanks for your your time and assistance Arne.. it's really appreciated. |

All I can see as some kind of connection to Statcounter is in this part of a large Javascript: Quote:
Only you and Valex has reported about it on the whole day. Usually we can see 10 users or more reporting within an hour or 2, if there really is an issue of the same kind with Statcounter. Also both of you who have reported (almost at the same time) has the same ISP. Last edited by Arne; 01-09-2011 at 04:50 PM. |

Yes it's still working I'm getting data updates on hits to my site..
Smugmug have two fields to insert the java code top and bottom.. I moved it to the bottom as you suggested and now it works a lot quicker.. As in the screen shot I posted previously As regards Statcounter sometimes being the cuplrit for the occasional slowness I'm not the first to have that thought. There are others: http://www.google.co.uk/#hl=en&&sa=X...9bff151c0ba26e |

But my point is that it does not affect only 2 users, it's more likely to affect 1000's and many of them report here as soon as they discover it. But as also the Google links show, many of those reports, ends up in the fact that the issue is somewhere else when investigated. In you case it may be a Smugmug issue, if the code was wrongly added from Smugmug's "point of view"! Last edited by Arne; 01-09-2011 at 05:23 PM. |

I'm anyway just curious why I can't see the counter code in the page source, and your screen shot shows where and how you add it. I can't see any other answer to my curiosity is that the long Javascript in the page source, starting with <script type="text/javascript" id="sm_js_base">, where "statcounter" is mentioned under the "SM.tracking" part, must have something to do with it. Hope you can "hang around" the forum, in case other Smugmug users need assistance with their code! |

As you can see from the posts in this thread, Scrap's issues have disappeared whatever was causing it. So I hope you are okay also. You may not have general network problems. What I meant was that your ISP may have a problem loading Statcounter's pages and the .js file from Statcounter in the counter code. If you still have problems, what is your site? Have you tested going to Statcounter with the free proxy I posted earlier? Any updates made for your browser or security software? They can also be the cause sometimes. |
