There are human beings in the Statcounter office.

GA seems overly complicated but perhaps offers more if you can get your head round it; but maybe you need to ask yourself whether great level of detail is necessary for your purposes. That's my impression.
I wasn't aware that the GA offices are without human beings! But what would I know from my amateur web designer experience!

Joke! - I thought it was full of robots that were let out occasionally to scour the internet. Whereas, I've actually communicated with people at SC.

SC lets you see SOME robot hits (those which it can track, the image enabled ones).

SC is much easier to read - all is based on the log - and you actually get to see the log of individual hits which you can analyse any way you like yourself.

GA reprots fancy colorful and ultra complex graphs .

They are both useful for slightly diffrent purposes. You can use both anyway.

GA is the ultimate trend analysis tool. Powerfull as hell, no doubt about it.

SC is the best real-time log manager you can use.

With Stats Counter, Big G doesn't have access to your website statistics. )

Cool

I am using both. Statcounter for sure gives a bit more accurate data for users visiting based on IP and shown on the map. Also statcounter had implemented:
- Keyword Analysis
- Recent Keyword Activity
in google you will not find it.
the biggest advantage over google is that statcounter will show full IP address of your visitors if you want to track your adverts or search results
rest is similar data available.

Google Analytics:
--required for adsense
--E-mails PDF reports
--Free for all accounts
--Works fully with Google Sites

Statcounter:
--Human support
--Better maps, logs, etc.
--More customizable appearance
--Better CP when using multiple projects
--Not giving Google more web statistics

Oh....you might have missed it, but actually thereīs Keyword Analysis, and Recent Keyword Activity in Analytics. And you can also see in which position your site was in the SERP when clicked. They have this three features since a long time.
In my case I receive stats with only 3 minutes of delay. In the last months, they have already reached real-time. At least for some accounts.

About not giving information of websites to Google......well....who knows what terrible things they could do to the world by knowing that my average visit lenght is 3:47. They could even rule the world with that kind of data.

Of course they are gathering a lot of information to get control of the web-market. Like every smart piece of meat does, in this digital world.
But they donīt need analytics to do that
You wonīt see them comming. They wonīt let you see they are comming.
