Default Facebook Bot

I know there's going to be an obvious answer to this one, but I can't figure it out. (I've sorted through most of the other questions I've had about referrers, etc.)

How do I interpret "Facebook bot"? Is it a spider? (This shows up now and then on my stats.) I *do* have friends at Facebook, but somehow I don't think this means they've been on my blog.

Thanks for your help. I'm new - or newish -- to blogging, and I've been tragically obsessed with my stats. Hopefully I'll get over it soon.

I had 613 hits from Facebook Bot yesterday.

Same reaction as you. Cause for concern?

Default facebook bot

I seem to have the same problem. This facebook bot keeps visiting my project about ten times per day and also i can not see people that i know they've been visited my blog in a certain time. Instead i see this bot. Does any body know what is this and how can we prevent it from messing with our stat's? Thanks

If you or anybody else has posted a link to your site on Facebook, their robot would likely visit your site. Don't forget Facebook also acts as a search engine.

Also if you use any Facebook widgets (Like, etc) on your site.

Dear webado thanks for the reply. But I need to ask something more about it.
If I stop using the "Like" and "Share" butons It will stop visiting my stats?
And if it's true how can I prevent the wordpress, in wich is my blog, off doing it?
Thanks again for your time and interest.

Repeating, the link was sent through inbox! Private. What is happening, then? And why so many hits from facebook bot?

Anytime anyone posts a link to your site on their own or anyone's timeline, or anyone shares an already posted link, the Facebook bot immediately goes to your site to see if it's still there, and checks the title of the page, and grabs thumbnails.

If someone with many thousands of friends posts a cool page from your site, then their friends all see the update and repost it, you will have tons of visits from the Facebook bot.

No worries, it's a good thing.

Facebook bot is becoming annoying becase it hides true users I want to see log statitistics. Now I donīt know how many people visits my pages because big portion of log is used by facebook.

Is statcounter thinking a way to ignore facebook in the same way Google and other bots are ignored?

thanks
