    HI All,

Its been a while since i have been on here....

I am trying to educate myself on the seo of a large business website project I am involved with....the site will contain millions of individual business details and I have a few questions for the clever seo guys and gals out there.

Our search results are generated from a search by users, therefore dynamic.

    1. We want to avoid website scraping, can we submit our sitemaps to google, yahoo and bing and NOT have the site map on the actual website?

    2. What is the best way to get a site with 100+ million pages indexed?

    3. I understand google no longer look at keywords, what do they look at now, page title, h1 tags etc?

    4. Any tips on how to avoid scrapping in general?

Thanks in advance for any information or help you can provide.

    Kind Regards
    Gav

If such a huge new site suddenly appears on the web it will take a very very long time for Google to crawl and index it. Ranking for anything will take even longer. You will need to be very patient.

Ideally you would build & publish the site much more gradually.

Think of the navigation structure, hierarchy. If it's all flat it's much more difficult to get it crawled and indexed.

    Google Webmaster guidelines

Steps to a Google friendly site

    Google SEO starter guide

Your sitemaps are best stored on your website. You don't have to have links to them anywhere (so you can keep them secret), you can simply submit them in Google Webmaster Tools. Probably it's the same with Bing Webmaster Tools. Yahoo's search engine is now Bing.

For a huge website sitemaps need to be gzipped and bundled in a sitemap index (in turn gzipped).

The keywords meta tag is useless for indexing, it's ignored. But if it's spammy (overly long, keyword stuffed) it may be used as a spam signal, so best not even to use it.

Proper page titles and well structured page text content are what drives indexing.
Headers (h1, h2, ...) provide page structure and readability.

    Page titles and description snippets

Do not engage in any linking schemes

Don't build a site with autogenerated pages

As for scraping, you cannot fully prevent it but don't make it easy. Don't publish feeds. Keep an eye out for evidence of live scraped content and nip it in the bud - maybe block the ip addresses of the servers where you find live scraped content.

Don't allow your databases to be queried by any external servers.

You forgot to add that any followed backlinks you or somebody working for you creates by any method at all also constitute SPAM.

So posting links to your site in forums, blogs, article marketing sites, news release sites - all that is SPAM and you'd only escape a penalty if all such links are nofollowed.

Many blogs and forums automatically nofollow links posted by their users. But not all.

Yes, that's why I said not all do it. Those that don't risk attracting no end of spam, maybe also malware. And with that search engine penalties as well.

There is no such thing as "Best article submission sites".

If you are intent on spamming the web and finding ways to spam the web, please do it elsewhere, not in this forum.
