I gave been using statcounter for months.

Everything was fine until a few weeks go.

I always choose invisible
click "OPTIONAL - HTML ONLY COUNTER" ,
choose "default install" and NOW it randomly generates code for
different web hosting sites like myspace or joomla

ie,

<a title="joomla stats" href="http://www.statcounter.com/joomla/" target="_blank"><img src="http://c.statcounter.com/4460375/0/c277cc61/1/" alt="joomla stats" border="0"></a>

a moment later it generated

<a title="myspace live counter" href="http://www.statcounter.com/myspace/" target="_blank"><img src="http://c.statcounter.com/4460375/0/c277cc61/1/" alt="myspace live counter" border="0"></a>

Finally, if I go back and choose XHTML COMPLIANT and Default Install

I get
<!-- Start of StatCounter Code -->
<script type="text/javascript">
var sc_project=4460375;
var sc_invisible=1;
var sc_partition=55;
var sc_click_stat=1;
var sc_security="c277cc61";
</script>

<script type="text/javascript" src="http://www.statcounter.com/counter/counter_xhtml.js"></script><noscript><div class="statcounter"><a title="counter for wordpress" class="statcounter" href="http://www.statcounter.com/wordpress.org/"><img class="statcounter" src="http://c.statcounter.com/4460375/0/c277cc61/1/" alt="counter for wordpress" /></a></div></noscript>
<!-- End of StatCounter Code -->

but this version will not record IE visits, only Firefox

Hi Peter,

The alt text etc that you see in the StatCounter code can just be ignored! It does NOT mean that the code is for Joomla/myspace etc at all.

This kind of varying alt text has always been included in the StatCounter code and is nothing to worry about. It WILL change every time the code is generated.

So just generate whichever code you prefer and install it as normal. It will work fine and apologies for any confusion.

Many thanks. I was surprised because when I looked back at the prior code generated by exactly the same steps, it was not this simple code but include the words javascript, etc. I was knocked away the first time I saw this new code (I have some 20 odd pages)..

BTW, any reason why I am not capturing IE6 or IE7 visits now, only Firefox?
